Prof. dr hab. Marek Moszyński

Scientific interest

His scientific activity is mainly devoted to the nuclear radiation detection techniques and methods. He is a world expert in scintillation detection, particularly in fast timing, gamma spectroscopy and fast neutron detection. He Was a member of the group that first developed time-of-flight PET at LETI Grenoble, France and discovered the fast component of BaF2 scintillator. At present, he is involved, with his group, in the study of new inorganic scintillators, modern photodetectors and different aspects of scintillation detection, like energy resolution and non-proportional response of scintillators in application to physics, nuclear medicine and homeland security.

Scientific output

Prof. Moszyński is the author of more than 300 papers in refereed journals, mainly in Nuclear Instruments and Methods A, IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science and Journal of Instrumentation (JINST). His citation record shows more than 8000 citations, with the mean citations of about 400 per year in the last 10 years and H factor equal to 45, following the WEB of Science Citation Index.

Since many years he is referee of Nuclear Instruments and Methods, IEEE Transaction on Nuclear Science and other international journals (about 20–30 reports per year). He is a member of Advisory Editorial Board of Nuclear Instrument and Methods A and a member of Editor Board of Journal of Instrumentation (JINST). At IEEE, in the period of 2000–2015, he Was a member of TransNational Committee and in 2002-2004 he Was the elected member of the Radiation Instrumentation Steering Committee of IEEE/NPSS.

He received the Von Hevesy Prize at the 3 rd World Congress of Nuclear Medicine and Biology in Paris in 1982. In 2000, he has got the IEEE/NPSS Merit Award and then in 2018 the IEEE Glenn Knoll award. In 2005 he Was elected IEEE Fellow starting on 1-st of January 2006 with citation „For contributions to scintillation detectors in nuclear physics and nuclear medicine”. In 2007 he has got the price of the Polish Minister of Science and Higher Education in the applied studies. He is recognized expert of IAEA in the homeland security, based of his knowledge in gamma spectroscopy and neutron detection.

In 1989 he has got the Gold Cross of Merit, in 2005 the Knight’s Cross of Polonia Restituta Order and in 2015 the Officer’s Cross of Polonia Restituta Order.
