FAREWELL TO DR ELŻBIETA BOREK-KRUSZEWSKA
We bid farewell to another employee of the Atomic Energy Institutes, our colleague Dr Elżbieta Borek-Kruszewska.  A person of great knowledge, enormous professional competence and broad experience. The rhythm of life and passing away shows us the inevitability of these events, about which we never agree. The reflection is always similar - the departures are too soon. Mrs Elżbieta passed away from us on Sunday 24 September.

Ms Elżbieta's entire professional life was associated with work focused on matters relating to the operation and use of the reactors at the Świerk Centre. She was not personally involved in the operation of the reactors, but her substantive support included analytical activities especially in the area of thermal-fluid issues, so important for the proper operation of the reactors, especially the MARIA reactor. She contributed immeasurably to one of the flagship topics pursued in the Nuclear Facilities Operations Department, which was the technical and logistical operations for the shipment of the highly enriched HEU fuel operated for years in the MARIA reactor to their manufacturer, including the equipment and operation of the dismantling chamber. She created and led, among other things, the team overseeing the control of the condition of the spent fuel, with a major contribution to nuclear and radiological safety assurance procedures.

Ms Elżbieta's participation in the work of the NCBJ Nuclear Safety Commission was extremely important. Her knowledge and experience, as well as her great involvement, in the works of the NSC were very helpful both in giving opinions on the submitted applications and in formulating the final recommendations of the NSC. When managing the work of the KBJ, I could always count on Ms Borek-Kruszewska's competent opinions. When mentioning people who are leaving, a number of positive features are mentioned. In this case, it is impossible to overlook these qualities both in the professional sphere and in direct relations.

Chairman of the NCBJ Safety Committee
