Prof. Zbigniew Szot, MD, died on 11 February 2020.

In 1950-1951, a military physician in Krosno Odrzańskie. From 1955, he was associated with the Institute of Nuclear Research in Warsaw, where he headed the Laboratory of Radionuclide Metabolism from 1958.

In 1970-1978, he was an active member and manager of international research projects at the European Union of European Laboratories for the Study of the Late Effects of Radiation (EULEP).

In 1983-1990, he headed the Department of Radiobiology and Health Protection at the Institute of Chemistry and Nuclear Technology and the Centre for Radiobiology and Biological Dosimetry.

In 1990-2002 he was head of the Independent Laboratory of Food Irradiation Identification at the IPCTJ.

Author of more than 30 scientific publications and promoter of many doctoral theses. Founding member of the Polish Society for Radiation Research (1967).

Awarded the Gold Cross of Merit (1972),

Medal of Merit for Nuclear Energy (1978),

Marie Skłodowska-Curie National Medal of the Polish Society for Radiation Research (2001).

The funeral will take place on 21 February (Friday) 2020.

The funeral service will begin at 13.00 in the Church of St. Karol Boromeusz in Warsaw, 14 Powązkowska Street, followed by the interment of the ashes in the family grave at Stare Powązki.
