17-03-2026

From 16 to 20 March 2026, the third edition of the Baltic Nuclear Energy Forum (BNEF) is taking place in Gdańsk – an international event dedicated to the development of nuclear energy in the Baltic Sea region and Central Europe. The Forum, held under the patronage of the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ), serves as a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience among representatives of public administration, industry, international institutions, and the scientific community.

One of the key topics of this year’s edition is Poland’s nuclear energy strategy. A delegation from the National Centre for Nuclear Research will participate in the discussion on this subject, comprising: Prof. Jakub Kupecki, Director of NCBJ; Dr hab. Eng. Łukasz Kurpaska, Director of the NOMATEN Centre of Excellence (International Research Agenda); and Dr hab. Javier Dominguez. The NCBJ team, together with representatives of public administration, will discuss, among other things, the importance of the Polish Nuclear Power Programme, plans for the construction of a second nuclear power plant, technology selection, and the challenges related to aligning investments with the needs of the energy system.

This year’s Baltic Nuclear Energy Forum is dedicated to the role of nuclear energy in building secure, stable, and resilient societies. Key topics include nuclear technologies, sustainable financing models, and international cooperation strengthening the European energy system. An important aspect of the discussion is also the role of nuclear energy in the national energy mix, including an analysis of other countries’ experiences and the challenges related to developing the Polish value chain.

Discussion panels feature leaders of global nuclear organizations, experts, and representatives of companies involved in the development of the sector in Poland and the region. The programme also includes specialist workshops on, among others, quality management, nuclear safety culture, and waste management.

The Baltic Nuclear Energy Forum is co-organized by Biznes dla Klimatu, Fahrenheit Universities, and UN Global Compact Network Poland.
