During this year’s Energy Days 2026 in Katowice, Miłosz Motyka from the Ministry of Energy announced that the Council of Ministers had adopted an update to the Polish Nuclear Power Programme (PPEJ) and was proceeding with work on the State Energy Policy (PEP).

"This is a long-awaited document that defines the strategic goals of the Polish State and organizes activities related to the development of nuclear energy. While awaiting the Government's adoption of the new PPEJ, we have naturally been carrying out key activities to support the process of building Poland's first nuclear power plant. As a G20 nation, Poland is viewed as an economy setting a rapid pace in nuclear energy development" – comments Prof. Jakub Kupecki, Director of the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ).

The PPEJ envisages not only the development of new generating capacity but also the creation of a robust Polish nuclear industry. Key objectives include investing in the skills of the Polish staff and strengthening Poland's energy security. The government plans to designate sites for new energy investments that will ensure energy stability for decades to come.

"We are now awaiting the new Energy Policy of Poland (PEP), which requires updating and the identification of priorities for the development of our power sector and energy supply system" – adds the NCBJ Director.

The National Centre for Nuclear Research is a pioneer of Poland's nuclear program; for over 70 years, it has been working to establish the nuclear sector and develop the associated scientific disciplines. NCBJ is home to Poland's only research nuclear reactor – the MARIA reactor – which is the country's most important nuclear infrastructure facility, serving as a unique foundation for skills development and providing essential support for the nuclear energy sector.
