The National Centre for Nuclear Research opens the competition for the position of

Postoc
at the High Energy Physics Division
(ref. BP3_507)

Localization: Pasteura 7, 02-093 Warsaw

Description of tasks:

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing software and physical analysis tools, as well as conducting data analysis from ultra-high-energy cosmic ray and neutrino experiments such as GRAND, POEMMA, and HERON. Planned activities specifically include work on separating events of interest from background through the optimization of template sets and machine learning methods based on one-class classifiers, as well as the reconstruction of the primary particle type based on Xmax. The employee will be required to participate in the optimization, calibration, and data collection from prototypes of the aforementioned experiments, involving potential travel to China, Argentina, and the United States. Efforts to secure research funding and the recruitment and co-supervision of doctoral students will also be expected.

Requirements for the candidate:

  •  Experience in experimental high-energy physics or astroparticle physics (cosmic ray experiments preferred) - Experience working in a large research team;
  • Experience in data analysis and statistical interpretation of results; knowledge of statistical and numerical methods;
  • Experience in creation and utilisation of various data analysis tools in a large experiment, preparation of publications, and planning of analyses and tests;
  • Proficiency in Python and C++ programming; knowledge of the ROOT framework;
  • English fluency

Additional assets:

  • Knowledge of at least one cosmic ray event generator; ability to analyse radio and fluorescence signals from extensive air showers;
  • Experience in computer vision methods, especially template matching, convolutional neural networks, and random forests.
