The National Centre for Nuclear Research opens the competition for the position of
Postoc
at the Radiation Detectors and Plasma Diagnostics Division
(ref. TJ3_419)
(Employment for at least 6 months)
Localization: Świerk near Otwock - in the outskirts of Warsaw with daily transport services provide.
Description of tasks:
Participation in the research project “Imaging Based on Gas Electron Multipliers in Conditions of Intense Radiation from Tokamak Plasma”, funded by the National Science Centre (OPUS). The project aims to develop and study GEM-type gas detectors with dedicated electronics for data acquisition and processing. The role involves analysing and processing data from multi-channel measurement systems, transmitted via high-speed links to a server for algorithm-based processing. The candidate will contribute to the design of efficient server-side data processing and participate in tasks related to effective data distribution on measurement platforms, using network interfaces and storage systems for data recording.
The candidate is in particular expected to:
- PhD obtained no earlier than 7 years before employment (per NCN post-doc definition), from an institution other than the host.
- During the contract – no other salary from NCN-funded projects and no other employment contract.
- Experience in designing or developing computational algorithms and processing measurement data for plasma physics (preferred) or HEP.
- Proficiency in C, C++, Python, Matlab.
- Experience in laboratory work.
Requirements for the candidate:
- At least two years of experience in experimental particle physics after PhD;
- Experience working in a large research team;
- Experience in analysing large data-sets, statistical interpretation of results, and knowledge of statistical methods;
- Knowledge of C++ and python programming;
- Fluent English.
Additional assets:
- Algorithm optimisation using CPU/GPU architecture features.
- Experience with computation acceleration libraries (e.g. OpenCL).
- Implementation of drivers or low-level software for network interfaces in PC servers (e.g. Ethernet).
- Knowledge of Assembler or algorithm implementation in Assembler.
- Understanding of particle detector principles and measurement methods in physics experiments.
- Ability to program FPGA devices (Xilinx).
