Dr Piotr Kopka awarded a scholarship from the Minister of Science and Higher Education for outstanding young researchers

We are proud to announce that dr Piotr Kopka of the National Centre for Nuclear Research has been awarded a scholarship in the 21st edition of the Minister of Science and Higher Education’s scholarship programme for outstanding young scientists.

The scholarship was awarded in the discipline of environmental engineering, mining and energy, which falls within the field of engineering and technical sciences.

In this year’s edition of the competition, the Minister awarded scholarships to 230 young researchers representing 54 scientific and artistic disciplines. The scholarships are awarded for a period of three years and recognise individuals who have demonstrated significant achievements in their research.

Dr Piotr Kopka conducts research in the field of nuclear safety, the analysis of the effects of radiation accidents, and emergency planning. He specialises in modelling the release of radioactive substances, estimating the characteristics of sources of atmospheric releases, probabilistic safety analyses, and decision-support systems used during radiation incidents. He is responsible for carrying out analyses of the effects of radiation for the location studies of Poland’s first nuclear power station at the Lubiatowo-Kopalino site and participates in national and international research projects concerning nuclear safety. His work focuses on developing modern methods for risk assessment and supporting decision-making processes in the fields of radiation protection and nuclear energy.
