The National Centre for Nuclear Research opens the competition for the position of

Assistant professor

at Radiological Metrology and Biomedical Physics Division

 

Localization: Świerk near Otwock - in the outskirts of Warsaw with daily transport services provide.

 

Description of tasks:

  • conducting research and development in the field of mixed radiation dosimetry, in particular based on recombinant ionization chambers
  • research and development in the field of neutron spectrometry in the context of radiation protection and neutron beam characterization, in particular based on active and passive spectrometric methods
  • numerical simulation of radiation transport and interaction using Monte Carlo codes
  • design and implementation of measurement experiments in high particle flux density/high dose rate beams
  • performing work related to gamma and neutron radiation metrology in ionizing radiation standard fields and in the MARIA research reactor
  • analysis of measurement results and numerical simulations
  • preparation of reports, scientific publications and conference presentations
  • preparation of applications for competitions to fund scientific activities

              

Requirements for the candidate:

  • PhD in physics or engineering
  • documented scientific activity in the field of radiation protection, mixed radiation dosimetry and neutron spectrometry (reports, publications, conference presentations)
  • documented participation in scientific or R&D projects in the field of ionizing radiation dosimetry
  • ability to perform long term field and beam measurements using unit acquisition systems
  • ability to use Monte Carlo modelling codes, e.g. MCNP, PHITS, FLUKA
  • willingness to travel for measurements, training and conferences
  • no contraindications to working with ionizing radiation (category A)
  • organizational and analytical research skills
  • ability to work independently and in an interdisciplinary team
  • good knowledge of written and spoken English (at least level B2)

 

Additional assets:

  • experience of working with exposure to ionizing radiation
  • experience of ionizing radiation detector design and construction
  • knowledge of tools for deconvolution of neutron spectra
  • knowledge of radiation protection issues, e.g. ICRP Publication 103, ICRP Publication 116
  • knowledge of ISO-4037 and ISO-8529 requirements
  • programming skills in Python, C, Fortran or other langu
