The National Centre for Nuclear Research opens the competition for the position of
Postdoc
Localization: Pasteura 7, 02-093 Warsaw
The Department of Astrophysics (BP4) of the NCBJ's Department of Fundamental Research, is engaged in research in astrophysics and astronomy, mainly their observational aspects. The Department currently employs 19 staff members at the rank of assistant professor and above, including eight foreigners. There are currently 13 doctoral students in the Astrophysics Department.
In the Astrophysics Department, we deal with both cosmology (including the microwave background radiation, the large-scale structure of the universe, dark matter and gravitational lensing), gravitational waves (multi-messenger astronomy, also called multi-messenger astronomy in Polish), galaxy physics (formation and evolution of galaxies, active galactic nuclei, quasars), and astronomy of the interstellar medium (star formation, neutron stars and white dwarfs).

2 +1 year post-doc position in observational astrophysics in the Astrophysics Department of the National Centre of Nuclear Research.
The employment is financed by the project OPUS 27 “DUSTiny: dust influence on galaxy properties in new generation surveys,” led by Prof. Katarzyna Małek. (katarzyna.malek@ncbj.gov.pl).
Description of tasks:
- working in a research team under the supervision of the PI and senior co-Is on tasks related to the implementation of the grant
- analysis of the observational data, interpretation of the results, preparing publications and conference presentations regarding the results obtained in the project and promoting research results
- participation in the scientific life of the Astrophysics Division - participating in meetings, seminars co-organsation of workshop, conferences and other activities
- (co)-supervision and providing support to the PhD and undergraduate students working on the project
- studies of physical/spectral properties of low surface brightness galaxy population and investigating the dependence of their properties on the local environment.
- active participation in the corresponding LSST science collaborations
Requirements for the candidate:
- Ph.D. in physics, astrophysics, astroinformatics or equivalent (obtained no earlier than in 2018 and no later than fall 2025),
- documented research experience (publications, conference talks, etc.) in the field of observational astrophysics physics
- fluent English spoken and written
Additional assets:
- documented experience in the analysis of big astronomical data
- documented experience in statistical data analysis, in particular in the area of modeling spectral energy distribution of galaxies and spectroscopic data reduction
- documented experience in studies of low surface brightness galaxies
