Description of tasks

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to complete tasks within the Sonata 21 project no. 2025/59/D/ST11/02128, titled "Development of new alumina-forming ODS alloys: fundamental studies on multifactorial degradation mechanisms." The scope of the application is the development and characterization of advanced austenitic AFA-ODS steels for high-temperature applications. The research includes a multifactorial analysis of the relationships between chemical composition, manufacturing technology, microstructure, mechanical properties, and the material's resistance to oxidation and degradation under high temperature conditions.

     Scope of diuties:

  • conducting scientific research within the research tasks defined in the project, in consultation with and under the supervision of the Principal Investigator;
  • participating in the fabrication and characterization of materials, including structural and microstructural investigations using microscopic techniques, such as optical microscopy and electron microscopy, as well as other available characterization methods; experience in spectroscopic techniques, particularly Raman spectroscopy, will be considered an additional advantage;
    analyzing and interpreting research results, including contributing to the integration and interpretation of results obtained using different research methods;
  • contributing to the preparation of project-related research documentation, reports and presentations, as well as maintaining research records and documentation, including in English;
  • preparing manuscripts for publication in international scientific journals;
  • disseminating and promoting project results through active participation in scientific conferences and presentation of research findings;
  • active participation in teamwork, including collaboration with team members in carrying out interdisciplinary research tasks;
  • complying with applicable laboratory safety procedures, good laboratory practice principles, and regulations governing the implementation of the project.

     Requirements for the candidate:

  • PhD degree in materials engineering, chemical engineering, or a related discipline relevant to the subject of the project, obtained in the year of employment or within 12 years prior to 1 January of the year of employment, with the possibility of extending this period in accordance with NCN regulations; the PhD degree should have been obtained at an institution other than the institution where the candidate is to be employed, or the candidate should have completed a continuous, documented research stay of at least 9 months at an institution other than the institution implementing the project and in a country other than the country in which the PhD degree was awarded.
  • documented experience in conducting scientific research, demonstrated by authorship of at least two scientific publications, including at least two first-author publications;
  • experience in materials research and characterization, particularly in the analysis of their structure and microstructure;
  • knowledge of microscopy methods and materials characterization techniques;
  • ability to analyze and interpret research results and to integrate results obtained using different research methods;
  • ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate on interdisciplinary research tasks;
  • proficiency in English sufficient to work with scientific literature, prepare scientific publications, and present research results

    Additional assets:

  • experience in materials processing and manufacturing, particularly using powder metallurgy techniques;
  • practical experience with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) or other microscopy techniques;
  • experience in the application of spectroscopic methods, particularly Raman spectroscopy;
  • experience in research on materials intended for operation at elevated or high temperatures;
  • experience in presenting research results at international scientific conferences.
