NASA’s Fermi Glimpses Power Source of Supercharged Supernovae
An international team studying data from NASA’s Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope concludes the mission detected a rare, unusually luminous supernova. The researchers say it likely received its power-up from a supermagnetized neutron star born in the stellar collapse that triggered the explosion. An astrophysicist from the National Centre for Nuclear Research took part in the project.

Young physicists presented their projects at NCBJ. 21st “Physical Paths” Competition concluded
The final of the 21st edition of the nationwide “Physical Paths” competition took place on 17 April at the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ). Students from across Poland, along with their teachers and representatives of the scientific community and public administration, gathered in Otwock. The winners have now been announced.
4NEW project inauguration

Ceremonial Scientific Council
On March 10, 2026, the National Centre for Nuclear Research held a ceremonial Scientific Council meeting, during which awards were presented for scientific and research achievements as well as organizational and technical accomplishments in 2025. During the ceremony, diplomas conferring the academic degrees of Doctor and Habilitated Doctor were also awarded.
U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration Visits NCBJ
On January 20, 2026, the National Centre for Nuclear Research was visited by a delegation from the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), led by the newly appointed Deputy Administrator of the Office of Nuclear Nonproliferation, Dr. Matthew C. Napoli.
