Prevention of a cyberattack on the National Centre for Nuclear Research

13-03-2026

The National Centre for Nuclear Research reports that an attempted cyberattack on the Institute's IT infrastructure took place recently. Thanks to the swift and effective action of security systems and procedures in place for such incidents, as well as the rapid response of our teams, the attack was prevented and the integrity of the systems remained intact.

All safety systems worked as expected, the attempt was blocked, and the steps taken allowed for immediate protection of the infrastructure and continuity of the Institute's work. No production, operational or research processes were disrupted, and the MARIA reactor is operating safely and without disruption, at full power - reports Prof. Jakub Kupecki, Director of the NCBJ.

The National Centre for Nuclear Research remains in constant communication with the relevant State institutions, and the process is being efficiently coordinated. We are working closely on this matter with NASK-PIB, the Ministry of Digital Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski, and the Ministry of Energy and Minister Miłosz Motyka to ensure the highest level of critical infrastructure security.

The situation is being monitored on an ongoing basis by the relevant services and security teams. The National Centre for Nuclear Research remains fully prepared to respond to any attempts to breach the digital security and critical infrastructure of the State.

We would like to emphasise that the National Centre for Nuclear Research is operating without disruption and that the MARIA nuclear reactor is safe.
