The energy transition is increasingly shifting from the realm of political declarations to the world of concrete technologies, precise definitions, investments, and industrial implementations. The director of the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ), who has assumed the role of Chair of the CIRE PowerUp Programme Council, is among the experts who combine scientific expertise with a practical perspective on the development of the energy sector. This is a clear signal that the voice of the NCBJ and nuclear energy are an indispensable part of the debate on the energy transition.
Prof. Jakub Kupecki is an expert with many years of experience in the fields of modern energy technologies, the energy sector’s transformation, and the development of innovative industrial solutions. His research and managerial activities focus, among other things, on hydrogen technologies, nuclear energy, and systems that support energy security.
The position of Chair of the CIRE PowerUp Program Council is intended to support the platform’s development as a forum for debate on the future of the energy sector, new technologies, and the direction of the sector’s transformation. An important aspect of the Council’s work will also be fostering collaboration between the scientific community, industry, and government.
The development of modern energy today requires not only infrastructure investments but also a sustainable base of expertise and technology. Collaboration between the scientific community and business is becoming one of the key conditions for an effective energy transition.
– The energy transition will not be effective without close cooperation between the scientific community, industry, and government, and the goals we set for ourselves must be regularly reviewed and revised. Today, it is no longer enough to simply implement off-the-shelf technologies — it is essential to build our own capabilities, develop manufacturing, technological, and research infrastructure, and create a space for substantive debate on the future direction of the energy sector. Poland faces the enormous challenge of modernizing its energy sector, but at the same time has the potential to become a hub for the development of modern technologies, including nuclear energy, hydrogen technologies, and advanced industrial systems. CIRE PowerUp can play an important role as a platform bringing together experts, entrepreneurs, and the scientific community around a common goal: a safe and modern energy sector — says Prof. Jakub Kupecki.
For the National Centre for Nuclear Research, participation in such initiatives is also of significant strategic importance. – It allows us to strengthen the Institute’s presence in the debate on the future of the energy sector, develop cooperation with industrial partners, and create opportunities for implementing technologies developed in Polish research centers. The role of the NCBJ is not only to conduct research but also to actively participate in the country’s technological and energy transition. We have been part of these processes since the Institute’s inception, but today our role is entirely different: we frequently participate in decision-making processes, define objectives, and then engage in activities at the level of companies, sectors, and the entire economy, – emphasizes the director of the NCBJ.
CIRE PowerUp is intended to be a space for the exchange of experiences and knowledge among representatives of the energy sector, academia, and business. The organizers announce that additional members of the Program Council will be introduced in the near future.
