The main area of Prof. Kupecki's scientific activity is new technologies for the energy sector, which he has been involved in for over a dozen years. He graduated with a master's degree from the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology. He participated in numerous international programs. He is a graduate of several universities, including foreign ones. He trained in research team management at the American business school in Berkeley. Prof. Kupecki created and led large interdisciplinary research teams with a strong market orientation.
– Prof. Kupecki combines the necessary expertise, international experience and the ability to cooperate with industry. This will also be a generational change. I am convinced that he will lead the institute so that, on the one hand, it retains its unique competences, and on the other hand, prepares it for new challenges related to the implementation of nuclear energy in Poland – said Minister Marzena Czarnecka.
Over the course of a dozen or so years, he has been involved in nuclear energy, both in Poland and abroad, including during his stay at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, where he conducted research on nuclear reactor technology for nearly two years.
Professor Kupecki closely cooperates with industry, sits on expert teams of the Ministry of Climate and Environment and boards of companies. He has authored and co-authored dozens of expert opinions for industry and created directional documents for the central administration. From the point of view of the scale of activities conducted by NCBJ, it is worth adding that Director Kupecki managed strategic research projects carried out in cooperation with companies.
In the years 2022-2025, he served as the director of the Institute of Energy - State Research Institute, where he started working a dozen or so years earlier as an engineer. At the Institute of Energy, he initiated activities to modernize the facility, introduce a new brand and lead IE through the process of granting the status of a state research institute. It is one of the institutes with a very commercial orientation, which operates on the markets of dozens of countries. We therefore hope that these skills and competences will strengthen the National Centre for Nuclear Research from September.
- My mission will be, on the one hand, to ensure the integrity of the Centre, which is not only the largest research institute, but also a strategic unit for many industries. On the other hand, we will seek new directions for the involvement of NCBJ in activities strongly focused on solving economic problems and close cooperation with industry, especially in the context of implementing nuclear energy - said Prof. Kupecki, outlining the main directions of activity [...].
