On 19 November, a gala was held to conclude the fourth edition of the "Łączy nas WIELkopolskiE" competition. Among the nominees was a joint project of the National Centre for Nuclear Research and the Wielkopolska Cancer Centre: Construction and validation of an ultra-high-dose electron beam generator (FLASH RT).

This year's edition of the competition attracted a record number of votes — as many as 10,430 votes were cast for projects submitted in four categories: „Łączy nas… nauka”, „Łączy nas… architektura i kultura”, „Łączy nas… społeczna misja” and „Łączy nas… troska o przyszłość”.

In the category "Łączy nas... nauka", a project carried out by NCBJ and WCO was nominated, concerning the construction and validation of a station generating an ultra-high-power electron beam (FLASH RT). The FLASH method may prove to be a real breakthrough in oncology — by administering the dose to the patient in less than 0.1 seconds, healthy tissues are much less exposed to damage, which increases the safety of the therapy while maintaining its full effectiveness. The AQURE FLASH RT accelerator is the first device of its kind in Poland and one of the few in the world.

The NCBJ and WCO project competed neck and neck with an initiative by the Academy of Applied Sciences in Konin. The number of votes cast for both projects was similar until the very end, and ultimately the FLASH RT project took second place.

The competition culminated in the event "Jak wiele nas łączy", which brought together nominees, experts from the world of science and representatives of local governments and social organisations. During the ceremony, the Marshal of the Wielkopolska Voivodeship, Marek Woźniak, presented a special diploma of thanks. On behalf of NCBJ and WCO, it was received by Jan Trzuskowski, Technical Director of the Department of Nuclear Equipment at NCBJ.
