U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration Visits NCBJ

On January 20, 2026, the National Centre for Nuclear Research was visited by a delegation from the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), led by the newly appointed Deputy Administrator of the Office of Nuclear Nonproliferation, Dr. Matthew C. Napoli.
The visit, initiated by the NNSA, aimed to familiarise the delegation with the involvement of the U.S. side in the modernisation of the physical protection system of the National Centre for Nuclear Research, with particular emphasis on the MARIA research nuclear reactor. Dr. Napoli expressed keen interest in the completed reactor core conversion and the scope of the reactor’s utilisation. Opportunities for further cooperation between the NNSA and NCBJ in the area of ensuring the reactor’s physical security were also discussed.
During the meeting, the National Centre for Nuclear Research was represented by: M.Sc. Eng. Grzegorz Krzysztoszek – Deputy Director for Nuclear Safety and Radiological Protection, M.Sc. Eng. Paweł Nowakowski – Director of the Department of Nuclear Facilities Operations, and M.Sc. Eng. Rafał Rychałkiewicz – Director of the Technical Department of NCBJ.
