We are proud to announce that dr Piotr Kopka of the National Centre for Nuclear Research has been awarded a scholarship in the 21st edition of the Minister of Science and Higher Education’s scholarship programme for outstanding young scientists. The scholarship was awarded in the discipline of environmental engineering, mining and energy, which falls within the field of engineering and technical sciences.

Last week, the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) was visited by a delegation of representatives from the Wielkopolska Region, led by Jacek Bogusławski, as well as members of the Wielkopolska Council for Nuclear Energy, representing the Poznań University of Technology, the Poznań University of Life Sciences, the Institute of Molecular Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and the Turkish Chamber of Commerce. The purpose of the visit was to establish cooperation between the NCBJ and universities in Wielkopolska, as well as other entities, in areas such as research projects, research and development, and the training of personnel specializing in nuclear energy.

An international team co-led by Dr Pratik Dabhade of the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) has discovered a remarkable bow-and-arrow-shaped radio galaxy with a giant arc-like structure extending nearly 1.8 million light-years.

It’s the season for festivals, events, and science picnics. At many of these events, you can meet the team from the NCBJ’s Education and Training Division, who educate everyone interested about radiation and its presence in our daily lives.

Molybdenum-99, produced in the MARIA reactor, is the isotope most commonly used in nuclear medicine procedures. Scientists at the National Centre for Nuclear Research have improved the isotope production process, which will increase its efficiency and reduce costs by as much as 14%. The optimisation and stabilisation of production will make it possible to save the lives of hundreds of thousands of patients.

The Association for the Promotion of Quality Control in Radiotoxicological Analysis (PROCORAD), in collaboration with National Centre for Nuclear Research, is organizing the 2026 PROCORAD Annual Meeting for radiation protection specialists.

The European Space Agency is planning to build a Technology Centre in Poland. The decision to locate the project within the Warsaw Metropolitan Area has been supported by representatives of the City of Warsaw administration, the Mazovia Voivodeship local government, companies from the space sector, research organisations and scientific institutions. During the event, a letter of intent was signed on behalf of the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) by Prof. Agnieszka Pollo, Deputy Director for Science.

The National Centre for Nuclear Research has received funding for five projects under the OPUS and SONATA programmes run by the National Science Centre.

The 19th Congress of the Polish Society of Nuclear Medicine took place in Łódź at the end of May. Representatives from the Radioisotope Centre POLATOM attended the meeting and presented their research achievements. One of the participants, Monika Wyczółkowska from the POLATOM Research Department, was honoured by the Committee with an award for the best oral presentation at the Congress.

In early April, the National Centre for Nuclear Research hosted the launch of the 4NEW project, which aims to support the development of skills and human resources for the nuclear sector in Poland. As part of the project, a delegation from the NCBJ and the project leader from the Silesian University of Technology had the opportunity to meet with Swedish partners involved in the skills support programme for the nuclear energy sector. This is an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience that will be invaluable for Poland, where this branch of the energy sector is just emerging.
