The National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) is inviting applications for a position
PhD student - scholarship
(machine learning-driven modeling of metallic glasses)
Location: Otwock - Świerk - in the outskirts of Warsaw with daily transport services provided.
NOMATEN Centre of Excellence (CoE) is formed through a scientific partnership between the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ-Poland), the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA-France) and the Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT-Finland). NOMATEN focuses research on the characterization, analysis and development of advanced multifunctional materials, specifically those designed to work in extreme conditions, with primary examples being radiation, high temperature and corrosion.

Job/tasks description:
- Conducting research on atomic scale dynamics in glasses and high entropy alloys using molecular dynamics.
Developing machine learning models that predict material properties from atomic structure and guide the design of stable disordered materials. - Interacting with the team working on metallic glasses including theorists.
Requirements:
Master of Science in Physics
Experience in theoretical and computational modeling is an advantage
- Student or doctoral candidate status in the field of materials engineering, mechanics, physics, or related fields
NCN scholarships may be awarded to individuals who are not PhD holders and participate in a doctoral programme studies or a doctoral school at any university in Poland;
The recruitment for the NCBJ Doctoral School is currently open. - Experience in the study of amorphous materials using the aforementioned experimental techniques, as well as collaboration with
the numerical group, will be an additional asset. fluency in English, spoken and written;.

We offer:
36 months scholarship of 5000 PLN per month on the project "Impact of Composition and Cooling Rate on Mechanical Properties of High Entropy Metallic Glasses" funded by the National Science Centre, Poland (SONATA BIS 13) (possibility of extension)

Access to the research potential of NOMATEN’s three partners between NCBJ (Poland), CEA (France) and VTT (Finland).

The appointments are expected to commence in October 2025.
