What do we specialise in?

The Department operates, maintains and develops Świerk Computer Centre (CIS), an IT infrastructure built to enable/support studies of very complex systems, as well as conducts R&D works on IT technologies and offers computational/implementation services.

The Department's activities concern research and development, implementation and service work, in particular:

  • is leading the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and Big Data processing methods, using its unique supercomputing infrastructure. The AI team is currently working on the use of machine learning and Big Data methods in areas such as computer vision and cyber security,
  • has one of the fastest supercomputers in the Mazovia region and in Poland, maintains and systematically develops a High Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure, offering a range of services to conduct advanced research, development work,
  • provides supercomputing power on a commercial basis,
  • is one of the world's main supercomputing centres (Tier-1) supporting experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN,
  • conducts research on methods for reconstruction, correction and subsequent analysis of data in various applications, particularly in the medical and biological areas. The team is participating in the J-PET experiment to develop novel methods for whole-body PET tomography. Methods for analysing medical data in text form are also being developed,
  • develops software and advanced IT services such as "Renderownia", among others,
  • conducts extensive research and technical activities in the areas of network services and IT security and application services,

  • conducts research and development on new reactor technologies in particular HTGR high temperature reactors, also related to health and environmental risk analysis,
  • develops mathematical methods, computational models and computer tools for the analysis of safety, health and environmental risks and hazards associated with major accidents of stationary nuclear and chemical installations, transport of hazardous substances and continuous emissions to the environment,
  • conducts research and provides services in the area of thermal-fluid issues in natural systems and technical devices: atmosphere, rock media, cooling, transport systems and others,
  • works for the development of the Polish economy, supporting various technological sectors with its expertise and computing power, carrying out implementations, business support and international projects.
